New Delhi, September 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked his 75th birthday today with a series of public welfare and infrastructure announcements, combining symbolism with governance initiatives.
The Prime Minister launched the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan” from Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, a tribal region chosen to highlight the government’s focus on women’s health and empowerment. The campaign aims to strengthen maternal and child health services, linking women’s well-being directly to family development.
In addition, Modi inaugurated development projects worth ₹111 crore in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, including improvements in drainage, sewage treatment, and public health facilities. He also announced ₹3,000 crore worth of infrastructure upgrades in Delhi, focusing on urban housing, sanitation, and road development.
The day also marked the beginning of “Seva Pakhwada”, a 15-day nationwide campaign of public service activities that will continue until October 2, Gandhi Jayanti. Party workers and volunteers will carry out activities ranging from blood donation drives and tree plantations to cleanliness campaigns across states.
Speaking on the occasion, Modi reiterated that birthdays should be “occasions of service, not celebration.” He urged citizens to contribute to community welfare and emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Significance of the Announcements
- Focus on women and tribal communities: By launching the health initiative in Dhar, the government has underscored its intent to bridge healthcare gaps in tribal belts.
- Localised development in Varanasi: The new projects aim to strengthen urban infrastructure and sanitation in Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency.
- Urban upgrades in Delhi: The ₹3,000 crore package targets critical civic issues like housing and sewage, aligning with the capital’s urban development push.
The BJP has also lined up multiple welfare events under the Seva Pakhwada, ensuring wide public outreach in the weeks following the Prime Minister’s birthday.
