Delhi Police Crack Munirka Flyover Hit-and-Run Case in 8 Days

New Delhi, September 24 – In a testament to relentless police work, the Delhi Police cracked a blind hit-and-run case on Munirka Flyover within eight days, arresting the accused and recovering the damaged vehicle.

On the night of September 15, around 2:30 a.m., a speeding car rammed into a stationary Honda City on Munirka Flyover, critically injuring its driver, hotel manager Mayank Jain. The assailant fled the scene, leaving behind a maroon Maruti Baleno with a shattered windshield and bent chassis.

With no immediate leads, officers launched a “blind” investigation, scanning footage from over 200 CCTV cameras across south Delhi. Forensic experts painstakingly traced tyre tracks and matched frame-by-frame video evidence, ultimately pinpointing the Baleno’s route and parking location.

Acting on this intelligence, a team from the South West District apprehended 24-year-old cab driver Rohit Singh from his residence in Mehrauli and seized the Baleno along with incriminating road debris. Singh confessed to speeding and panicked after the collision, admitting he fled fearing legal repercussions.

Police have booked Singh under sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by negligent act), and 304A (death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. The recovered vehicle and CCTV evidence form the crux of the prosecution’s case, highlighting the Delhi Police’s commitment to using technology and tenacity to secure justice.
