ACP’s son, two others arrested in road rage death in Faridabad

Faridabad, September 24: In a shocking road rage incident that exposed potential police cover-up attempts, authorities arrested four individuals, including the son of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajesh Kumar Lohan, for the brutal killing of property dealer Manoj Kumar in Faridabad’s Sector 12.

The tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning around 1:30 a.m. when Kumar, 42, and his friends encountered a group performing dangerous stunts in a customized Mahindra Thar. What began as a confrontation over reckless driving escalated into fatal violence when the SUV deliberately ran over Kumar, crushing him to death.

According to police reports, Kumar and his friends had returned from a Vrindavan trip and stopped at a friend’s office in Sector 9. Two companions, Navdeep Singh and Aman Kumar, rode motorcycles to fetch food from Sector 12 when they encountered the Thar performing stunts and driving dangerously. After confronting the occupants, a heated altercation ensued.

The situation turned deadly when Kumar and his friends traced the Thar to Sector 12. As soon as they approached the vehicle, the occupants panicked and deliberately drove over Kumar before fleeing the scene. Kumar was rushed to a private hospital in Sector 16 but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Initially, police registered the case under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. However, following fierce protests from Kumar’s family, who accused authorities of attempting to shield the accused due to the ACP connection, the charges were upgraded to Section 103(1) for murder.

The Thar, illegally modified with tinted windows and broad alloy wheels, was registered in ACP Lohan’s name. While Lohan claimed his driver had taken the vehicle that night, investigations revealed his son was among the occupants. A Special Investigation Team led by ACP (Central) Rajiv Kumar is conducting the probe.
