Hyderabad ragging suicide

A 22-year-old B.Tech student at Siddharth Engineering College in Hyderabad died by suicide after allegedly being forced by seniors to pay a ₹10,000 bar bill and consume alcohol against his will. Jadhav Sai Teja’s body was discovered in his Medipally hostel room on Sunday night. Police recovered a distress video in which he begged for help, describing threats of violence if he didn’t comply.

Medipally Police registered FIRs under the Prohibition of Ragging Act and for abetment of suicide. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses. Superintendent R. Srikanth warned perpetrators will face “stringent legal action.”

The college administration expressed shock and pledged full cooperation. It announced measures including enhanced hostel surveillance, a 24/7 helpline, and mandatory anti-ragging workshops. Student unions demand transparent probes and systemic campus safety reforms.

Mental health experts urge proactive counseling and awareness to prevent ragging tragedies. Sai Teja’s family, who traveled over 300 km to Hyderabad, is calling for justice and hopes his death catalyzes permanent change in campus culture.
