Navjot Singh (DEA Deputy Secretary) dies as speeding BMW hits his bike near Delhi Cantt; wife critically injured, accused detained
A senior Finance Ministry official died and his wife was seriously injured after a BMW car collided with their motorcycle on the Ring Road near the Delhi Cantonment metro station on Sunday. The crash took place on the Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Cantt stretch of the Ring Road on the afternoon of September 14, 2025. According to police, the luxury BMW rammed into the couple’s motorcycle from behind, sending the car onto its side and the bike skidding near a road divider
Police identified the victim as Navjot Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Finance Ministry’s Department of Economic Affairs. Singh, a resident of Hari Nagar in west Delhi, was pronounced dead on arrival at a GTB Nagar hospital. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, also 50, was critically injured in the crash. Medical reports indicate she suffered a fractured femur (thigh bone) and severe head trauma despite wearing a helmet. The couple had been taken by the BMW’s driver and passenger (later identified as the accused) to the hospital, which is about 17–22 km from the accident site, before Singh succumbed to his injuries
According to Delhi Police, Singh and Kaur had been returning home from the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara in central Delhi when their motorcycle was struck on the Ring Road near the Delhi Cantt metro station. Eyewitnesses and police reports say the BMW first clipped the central median before plowing into the bike and then into a nearby city bus. “Eyewitnesses said a woman was driving the car when it hit the motorcycle,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goel told reporters. Immediately after the crash, the BMW’s driver and her husband rushed the injured couple to a hospital in a taxi
The BMW has been identified as belonging to Parikshit Kakkar, a businessman from Gurugram. Police say Parikshit’s wife, Gaganpreet (also spelled Gagandeep in some reports), was at the wheel at the time of the collision. The couple’s two young children were in the back seat of the BMW, but escaped major injury. Investigators believe the car was traveling at high speed and lost control. Delhi Police have seized both the BMW and the motorcycle as evidence. Authorities are now verifying Gaganpreet’s driving licence and have sent her blood sample for alcohol testing; they are also reviewing CCTV footage from the accident area to reconstruct the incident.
Singh’s death was confirmed by hospital staff after arrival. Kaur remains under medical care with life-threatening injuries. Gaganpreet and her husband Parikshit were also treated for injuries (mostly minor abrasions and shock) and are reported to be in stable condition. The police have not yet recorded statements from the BMW’s occupants, pending their recovery.
Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report in the case and invoked multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include sections for rash driving, endangering human life, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and destruction or concealment of evidence. A forensic team inspected the crash scene and both vehicles; the vehicles have been impounded for examination. The investigation is ongoing, with forensic experts testing the driver’s blood and analyzing CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events.
The accident has drawn public attention and demands for accountability. Udit Arya, President of the Central Secretariat Services Forum (representing central government officers), condoled Singh’s death on social media and urged officials to ensure a thorough investigation. He appealed directly to the Prime Minister’s Office and Delhi Police to deliver justice for the bereaved family. As of the latest reports, the case remains under inquiry and no formal charges beyond the FIR have yet been framed.
