C P Radhakrishnan Elected as Vice President of India, Vows Developed Nation by 2047

In a historic midterm election, C P Radhakrishnan was elected as the 15th Vice President of India, securing a decisive victory over opposition candidate Justice B Sudershan Reddy and pledging to work towards a developed India by 2047.

Radhakrishnan, nominated by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), won by a comfortable margin—receiving 452 votes against Reddy’s 300, as 767 Members of Parliament participated in the election with a record turnout of 98.3%. The election was conducted following the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar due to health reasons, marking an important transition in the nation’s leadership.

Reacting to his victory, Radhakrishnan described his election as a win for nationalistic ideology and emphasized his commitment to advancing India’s status on the global stage. “It is a victory for every Indian, and we all have to work together to make India a developed nation by 2047,” he stated in his first public remarks after being declared Vice President-elect.

Acknowledging the significance of bipartisan democracy, Radhakrishnan highlighted that both government and opposition are vital, promising to uphold parliamentary discourse and constitutional values. His extensive experience—from Governor to multiple parliamentary committee roles—is expected to strengthen India’s governance at this crucial time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Radhakrishnan, expressing confidence that his decades-long record in public service will help drive the nation closer to its 2047 development goals.

The election verdict underlines widening unity, with cross-voting evident as several opposition MPs chose to back Radhakrishnan. Analysts say the outcome reflects the NDA’s numerical strength and strategic southern outreach, making Radhakrishnan the third Tamil Nadu leader to hold this esteemed office.

With his new pledge, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan has set an ambitious agenda aimed at transforming India into a developed nation by 2047—a vision that will shape the country’s political and economic discourse in the coming years.
