India remembers the legendary freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary, January 23.
Netaji was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha. A brilliant student, he ranked 4th in the ICS examination but chose to fight for India's freedom.
Netaji led the Indian National Army (INA) to fight against British colonial rule. His slogan, 'Give me blood, and I will give you freedom', ignited the spirit of independence in millions.
In 1943, Bose formed the INA in Singapore, uniting Indians abroad to fight for freedom. He declared the Provisional Government of Free India on October 21, 1943.
Netaji's contributions are celebrated every year on Parakram Diwas.
